Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery: Which One Do You Need?

Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery: Which One Do You Need? When it comes to facial rejuvenation, the eyes and brows are often the first areas to show signs of aging. Sagging skin, droopy eyelids, and deep forehead lines can make you look tired or older than you feel. Two popular procedures—brow lift and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)—address these issues, but in different ways. Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides brow lift and eyelid surgery to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding communities.

So how do you know which one you need?

Understanding the Differences

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)

A brow lift targets the upper third of the face, specifically the forehead and eyebrow region. It lifts sagging brows, softens deep horizontal forehead lines, and reduces frown lines between the eyebrows.

Ideal for patients who have:

  • Drooping or flat eyebrows

  • Deep forehead creases

  • Frown lines or “11s” between the brows

  • A heavy or hooded upper eye area due to brow descent

Types of brow lifts:

  • Endoscopic (minimally invasive, small incisions)

  • Temporal or lateral brow lift (focuses on outer brow)

  • Classic (coronal) brow lift (more extensive)

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty addresses the eyelid area, not the forehead. It can be done on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.

  • Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, improving hooding and restoring a more alert look.

  • Lower blepharoplasty corrects under-eye bags, puffiness, and sagging.

Ideal for patients who have:

  • Droopy or sagging upper eyelid skin

  • Puffy upper or lower lids

  • Tired-looking or aged eyes

  • Vision obstruction due to excess upper eyelid skin

Do You Need One—or Both?

In many cases, a combination of brow lift and eyelid surgery offers the best result. For example, if sagging brows are pushing down on your eyelids, a brow lift will raise them—but you may still need blepharoplasty to remove excess skin or fat from the eyelid itself.

Signs You May Benefit from Both:

  • You have both forehead creases and hooded upper eyelids

  • Your brows are lower than their natural position

  • You look angry or tired, even when well-rested

The Consultation Matters

An experienced plastic surgeon will assess the relationship between your forehead, brow, and eyelid anatomy. They’ll determine what’s causing the heaviness or tired look and recommend a tailored solution.
