    Lip Augmentation Recovery

    Lip Augmentation

Lip Augmentation RecoveryThin lips are an aesthetic concern for many women. Lip augmentation can increase lip volume and reduce the appearance of lipstick lines by filling age-related creasing along the lip border.

Most women are good candidates for lip augmentation cosmetic surgery, but anyone considering the procedure should learn about all the key aspects of lip augmentation, including recovery.

Facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian provides lip augmentation to patients in Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and surrounding locations across the landscape.

    Recovery Process

After lip augmentation, recovery usually requires very little downtime. Often, patients who have undergone lip augmentation can return to their normal routine within a day. Patients should know about what to expect following lip augmentation to assist them during the recovery process.

    What to Expect

Lip augmentation through the application of lip fillers, fat transfer procedure, or the placement of lip implants may be performed right in the doctor’s office or at a surgical center.

The duration of lip augmentation recovery varies depending on the specific type of lip augmentation procedure performed. However, most patients can return to their daily routine within a day, unless a general sedative was used to complete the procedure.

After any type of lip enhancement procedure swelling and bruising can be expected. These effects may last a week or so if fillers are utilized for the augmentation and up to three weeks if lip implant cosmetic surgery is performed. Discomfort during the lip augmentation recovery process is minimal and rarely requires management with prescription pain medication.

    Returning to Normal Routine

The lip augmentation recovery process following fat transfer or lip enhancement with injectable lip fillers generally requires a day’s rest before patients can return to normal activities. Post-operative discomfort can be controlled with over-the-counter pain relievers.

After a lip implant procedure, recovery usually requires at least a week, and many patients find that this process takes up to two weeks. Sutures placed outside of the mouth are removed about 10 days after the surgery. Sutures within the mouth dissolve in about the same amount of time.

The lips may feel numb until the healing process is complete. Additionally, lips may feel stiff for up to three months after the procedure.

Recovery after Filler Injection Treatment for Lips

There could be mild pain and bruising after your treatment.

Recovery time is typically one day, however bruising, swelling, and soreness can occur for up to one week. On rare occasions, hyaluronic acid may cause minor or moderate injection site reactions, which can be observed for 1-2 weeks.

You can’t take Ibuprofen or Aspirin during recovery

Avoiding NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, aspirin, or ibuprofen) is strongly recommended, as these can increase the likelihood of bruising.

Long-term, it won’t significantly change the appearance of your lips

Depending on your desired results, this could be good or bad news. Experts point out that mechanical stretching of the dermis causes activation of fibroblast cells that results in the stimulation of new collagen may begin to last longer with repeated injections — but this is not guaranteed.

Successful facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Eric Yavrouian receives patients from Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Greater Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, CA, and other cities and suburbs in this part of The Golden State for lip augmentation.
